Ranking Every Power Rangers Opening Theme, From Worst to Best

Dino Thunder

Dino Thunder was an excellent season with a likeable cast, great villain, fun nods to the old days of the series, and—most importantly of all—a kick-ass theme song. The backing track with its rocking guitar is wonderful, getting the viewer pumped for the prehistoric power fantasy of this fondly remembered season. Even the instrumental alone is great to listen to.

Favourite line: ‘Victory is ours forever more!’

Lost Galaxy

Just missing out on the top three, Lost Galaxy’s theme is epic in scale and sets the tone for a galaxy hopping adventure. It’s hard to describe because I’m no music aficionado of any sort, but the song just feels epic. The ‘Aaaaaah, turn on the power, Power Rangers!’ part with the bells just speaks to me on a spiritual level.

Favourite line: ‘Turn on the power, POWER RANGERS!’

SPD

SPD is worthy of the top 3 purely based on the fact that they brought back Ron Wasserman. Seriously, that was a genius move and the awesome song just proves that Wasserman still knows how to make a memorable and kick-ass theme song. The instrumentals are just as good as the vocals, and it hearkens back to the earlier days of the franchise when the themes had a more rockin’ approach.

Favourite line: ‘Heroes on your side, heroes for all time, out to save the universe!’

Time Force

Time Force is my favourite series of Power Rangers full stop. For one thing, the acting was actually rather good. It’s got a great team led by the best Pink Ranger ever, a somewhat sympathetic villain, an edgy-yet-charismatic bonus Ranger and a theme song that lets you know that you’re in for a real treat. Maybe it’s the singer’s voice being a lower octave than what I was used to with the usual songs, but Time Force’s opening just screams of being a harsher, more action-drama-heavy show. It’s just pure awesome, and always gets me pumped for the episode.

Favourite line: ‘TIMELESS WONDERS, FIRE AND THUNDER, OFF TO SAVE THE WOOOORLD!’

In Space

The series that was supposed to signal the climax of the franchise ended up being so successful that it ushered in a new era of the show to follow in its wake. The final entry in the Zordon era was a dramatic space opera (for kids) with betrayals, twists, exciting battles, and very memorable villains. It’s fitting then, that the theme song was, in a word, epic. Oooh, shivers I swear. Like Zeo before, the In Space theme is a sequel song, telling us about how the Rangers are jetting off to exciting new adventures in the vast, endless expanse above. They were ‘flying higher than ever before‘ and we knew it.

So there we have it, my personal ranking of every main Power Rangers theme song. No doubt there will be many disagreements, as is the way with any such opinionated listings. I can only hope that the theme songs of the Power Ranger series to come in the future are just as good as what we’ve already heard, if not better.

Favourite line: ‘Flip on thrusters, fire the rockets, save the future, long live the Power Rangers… In Space!’
