The anime’s new season will start broadcasting in October
The latest trailer for Mob Psycho 100‘s third and final season has been released. Mob Psycho 100 is an anime adaptation of the manga that was written and illustrated by ONE (the creator of the One-Punch Man webcomic that found great success as a manga and anime). It’s about a meek boy named Mob who possesses vast psychokinetic powers that have alienated him from his peers but have aided him in his part-time job as an assistant to the eccentric exorcist/con-man Reigen Arakawa. The life-affirming story has action, comedy, and drama. It deconstructs shounen tropes while communicating a genuinely heartwarming tale about an emotionally-repressed boy navigating his interpersonal relationships with friends, family, classmates, and work.
The anime adaptation is noteworthy for how it took advantage ONE’s simplistic art style to elevate all other aspects of the production. The animation studio, Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist, Bungo Stray Dogs, My Hero Academia), made characters dynamic and expressive, action scenes kinetic and gorgeously lit, and emotional scenes well-paced and meaningful. This is all complemented by an excellent soundtrack and stellar voice-work.
Season 3 takes place after the climax of Season 2, which saw a head of broccoli absorb a psychic explosion and become a giant, nutritious world tree. The threat of Claw has subsided, but a more insidious danger seems to be lurking in the shadows in the form of a cult worshipping a figure with Mob’s likeness that is slowly taking over the town. Mob will have to confront the cult and how he uses his powers, while also considering his future career prospects and extracurricular activities with the Body Improvement Club.
You can watch Mob Psycho 100 on Crunchyroll and buy the manga from all good bookstores.
A flamboyant ultra nerd, Dave participates in the Underlevelled Tournament both for the thrill of the fight, and to avenge the orphans lost in the climax of the previous tournament.
