Jungle Fury
Jungle Fury was the series that got me back into Power Rangers, and its opening theme definitely helped with that. It’s fast-paced, exciting, and unique from the others; one of those songs that just makes you want to don spandex, jump in the air and go ‘yeah!’ It’s everything the Ninja Storm theme was trying to be, but better.
Favourite line: ‘Dai Shi go away, we’re here to save the day!‘
Zeo
Zeo and In Space are what I consider to be perfect examples of the ‘sequel song.’ It has shades of the original theme incorporated in, but the lyrics speak of being ‘stronger than before’ and ‘fired up for more.’ It’s the evolution of the series, and the theme wants you to know about it. The almost angelic chant at the start coupled with the more tech-y sounding instruments conjures imagery of the team ascending to new, higher level of power that was previously only dreamed of.
Favourite line: ‘Gooooo Zeoooo!’
Wild Force
Wild Force is just an enjoyable song from start to finish, with its heroic lyrics about how awesome the new team is and how they’re going to go about saving the world. Honestly, I don’t have that much to say about Wild Force, apart from it being a memorable and enjoyable song from that sweet spot of the Disney era when all the songs were pretty good.
Favourite line: ‘Weeeeee willll saaaaave theeee woooooorld!’
Mighty Morphin
Ah, the original Ron Wasserman classic that started it all— the catchy as hell tune that hooked us and remained an ear-worm in our minds for nearly thirty years. Unlike other themes, the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers theme song was written as a full 4-minute track with multiple verses and an instrumental, which would sometimes be featured in its fractured entirety during especially action-packed scenes. During an interview with Inverse.com, Wasserman stated: In anything I’d written that’s been for kids, I never write for kids. I’m writing for myself, I’m writing for adults. Because I don’t ever talk down to kids, I never have. That’s, I think, why that theme became so huge.’ It would be foolish to claim that the song isn’t great and influential, but there are just a few more songs that I enjoy more than the original. So if you will excuse my blasphemy for a second, let’s move on with the list…
Favourite line: ‘No-one will ever take them down, the power lies on their si-i-i-i-iiide!’
