It’s Christmas! What’s better than hiding from the weather, curled up under a blanket with some hot chocolate and video games? That’s right, doing it whilst wearing festive outfits in said video games! So to mark the season, here’s out list of our favourite Santa Suits in the gaming realms.

1. LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4

While this one may not be a full suit; Travelers Tales included a red brick that causes snow to fall and the music to change to the Christmas theme from the movies. Wrap this up with a Christmas hat and you’re feeling suitably festive and ready to wreak havoc on the castle and its LEGO inhabitants! You can add this vibe with the Christmassy nature of the movies and the joy of playing couch co-op with loved ones and its a golden combination.

2. Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing has almost infinite customisation possibilities, but one of these is the legendary Santa Suit. You two can dress like Jingle and spread Christmas cheer to your town, and if you wish, even give your town a festive makeover. At the very least though, Animal Crossing includes the beard, which is often missed when giving characters the red suit.

3. Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey is no stranger to colourful costumes, but did you know that a later update added a suitably festive Santa Suit? Dressing Mario as our favourite gift giver is welcomed choice, especially since the colour pallete matches well. Now you can hop, jump and collect an excessive number of moons in Christmas style. Now all we want is a lore accurate green Santa suit for Luigi and all our Christmas dreams will come true.

4. Sonic Frontiers

Outfits in Sonic games is a relatively new phenomena, but Sonic Frontiers decided to go festive with a hat and coat for the blue blur. Its subtle enough to not overdress Sonic, but its enough to symbolise the festive period and adds an extra layer of fun to the experience. If you’re more classic Sonic inclined, Sonic Superstars has a similar outfit as free DLC too, so take your pick!

5. Kingdom Hearts 2

One special part of the Kingdom Hearts franchise that often gets overlooked, are the disguises Sora and company wear. For each world they visit, if they’re not likely to blend in well in their standard attire, they don special outfits or form changes. For Halloween town, its notable that they equip two different disguises, one for the titular town, and the other for Christmas town. The Halloween town attire is a black, monstrous garb with light Christmas elements. The best way to describe it is to image the emo kids got to make a Christmas pantomime instead of the theatre kids.

As for the one that makes it hit this list, the Christmas Town outfit for Sora sports the bright red hat, the suit and even gloves. But naturally, he keeps his giant iconic shoes, probably couldn’t spring the munny for giant Santa boots! Goofy dressing as a reindeer is hilarious and Donald as a snowman is utterly bizarre, but they help fit the bill of how Jack may see Christmas; so it works well enough through this perspective!

6. Saints Row IV

As the main character, you don’t care much for Santa and not one to join in with the Christmas season. But, in the DLC Mission ‘How The Saints Saved Christmas’, you end up doing just that. It features “the boss” going on a wild and chaotic adventure with their crew all the way to the north pole. The goal? To help Santa save the world from Santa Clawz and bring back the true meaning of the festive season.

Upon playing and completing the DLC mission, you will be rewarded with Santa and elf outfits. As well as the obligatory ‘ugly’ Christmas jumper, along with a few fun festive vehicles. So go ahead a fly through Steelport in Santa’s sleigh, putting the whole city on the naughty list by blasting everyone with an explosive gift this holiday season.

7. Astro Bot

Astro Bot is known for two things, joyful platforming and costumes. The vast majority of the costumes available are from PlayStations extensive history, from mascots to iconic third party characters. While you may want to dress as Ratchet, or maybe even a cow, there’s one that stands out for this time of year. Yes, in December 2024, Team Asobi gifted us with a free Christmas themed level, wearable Santa Suit in tow.

So, now you can complete a wonderfully festive level, with Spider-Men included, whilst dressing the part too! What’s even better, is that you can wear this anywhere else in the game too, making a December replay very warranted! So kick back, dress up as Astro Claus as and aid in his goal to slowly consume all the other PlayStation mascots to become the face of PlayStation.

8. Persona 5

Shin Megami Tensei titles are no stranger to copious amounts of costume DLC, Persona 5 being a big victim of this practice. But, Atlus included a Festive costume pack featuring various red Santa inspired suits for the Phantom Thieves (included in the base game of the Royal release). The suits all match the characters unique styles and personalities and simply look fantastic. I desperately want to push snowman Morgana over and watch him wobble back and forth like an okiagari-koboshi doll.

9. Senran Kagura

Feeling a bit more risqué this year? We won’t judge. The infamous franchise Senran Kagura has a Santa Suit DLC item you can purchase for 99p. The best part is that it can be used across multiple games in the franchise for the one purchase, one of the few consumer DLC costumes in the market. If you’re already playing a game in this series and happen to want a Christmas vibe then you may as well. It probably covers up the characters more than some of their usual outfits anyway!

10. Sackboy A Big Adventure

Before Astro Bot, we had Sackboy, and he is no stranger to costumes. The LittleBigPlanet franchise had hundreds of DLC costumes you could mix and match to make unholy abominations. And whilst all of this DLC is lost to time, Sackboy’s Big Adventure is still holding on with its, albeit smaller, collection of costumes. Two note worthy examples are the Santa Suit and the Christmas tree outfits added for Christmas 2022. These costumes are still available for purchase and can be obtained right now, for free. So why not play through a wonderful 3D platformer this Christmas?

11. Taiko no Tatsujin Rhythmic Adventure 2

Looking to become a drum master this holiday season? Then do so in festive style with a full Santa Claus garb. The set has the classic red hat and a little moustache, and Don Chan is joined by two little reindeers on his body to complete the look. The full costume can be obtained via ranking up in ‘Taiko Mode’, nice and easy! Also, if you wear the outfit in the games Story Mode you will obtain items from battle more easily. So wish for merry high scores this Christmas with Don Chan and Katsu!

12. Hatsune Miku Project DIVA

Celebrate the festive season with the world famous virtual singer Hatsune Miku and friends. Each of the main 6 have their own Christmas module that can be obtained for 450VP in the ‘Future Sound’ pack. Boasting a classic red outfit with white fur trim, each Vocaloid has their own unique touches. Miku and Rin have bows of there respective colour themes, Kaito keeps his signature scarf while Luka flaunts a gold necklace of her name. Meiko wears a cute little festive neck tie and Len dons reindeer antlers. Future tone has a Christmas song, ‘Requiem for the Phantasma’ by deadballP that’s perfect for playing with these modules; as well as some other winter themed songs.

These same modules can also be obtained in Project Diva X with a few style changes. The modules are part of the ‘quirky cloud’ and can be found in ‘The First Festival’ event quest. Unlockable by playing as each character respectfully to obtain there own module. Every module offers the same affect when used, the ‘Rare Module Dropper Lv3’ boost.
