Lionel Messi races across an empty pitch, a solitary player persisting in a world devoid of life. There’s something lonely and sombre about the visuals here, and it evokes a feeling of hopelessness. Where are the other players? Is this a post-apocalyptic setting with Messi is the sole remaining human on Earth, running for his life from some unknowable evil that seeks to consume him?
21: FIFA 14
It’s Messi running in a void again, but this time he’s cheering. Has he achieved victory over the forces of darkness pursuing him? Is he exclaiming in pleasure at his victory at last? That victory may be short-lived, however. If you look closely behind Messi you can see his form being warped as reality itself contorts around him. Will he be able to survive the ordeal? 20: FIFA 11
It’s Rooney time again, but this time his demeanour’s a bit more subdued. His screaming energy has been transferred to the fellow next to him, who appears to be cheering Wayne on. For what purpose, I cannot say, but Rooney looks energized by the encouragement. I applaud this cooperative action between players, bravo.
19: FIFA 17
This cover is aggressively yellow, it’s like a lemon assault on my eyes. The guy is blonde, his outfit is yellow, there’s some yellow things in the background and even the 17 is yellow. What’s with all the yellow? It makes me feel ill. At least the guy is doing some sort of happy dance, which doesn’t excuse the overabundance of yellow but still looks like a fun activity. He doesn’t look too happy with it though, maybe it’s all the yellow.
